Kohima, Jan 26 (UNI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has declared that the party will contest the forthcoming general elections in Nagaland and announced that it has appointed former MLA Asu Keyho as the State president.

Addressing a press conference at Kohima, the North East in-charge of AAP Rajesh Sharma declared that the party is very hopeful that under the leadership of Asu Keyho, AAP will rise in Nagaland and go to the grassroots level in the coming years, which will be a big change in the politics of Nagaland.

Sharma said the party was formed with the aim of fighting against corruption, which was also the main issue in Nagaland.

He alleged that corruption in Nagaland was deep-rooted too and that it had crippled development in healthcare, road infrastructure and other developmental activities.

He commented that it was the right moment for the people of Nagaland to rise and vote for good governance, honest politics and development by eliminating corruption from politics.

Addressing a press conference, Keyho said AAP was a party that delivered the best witnesses who were the students and Government employees in Delhi, all of whom experienced the governance of AAP President and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who sow the seeds of AAP in Nagaland to give new hope to the younger generation.

Pertinently, AAP made its political debut in Nagaland by fielding two candidates during the 2018 elections in Dimapur-II Assembly constituency and Ghaspani-I Assembly constituency.

Meanwhile, a new political party calling itself the North East Democratic Front (NEDF) entered the electoral race in Nagaland and the party declared its electoral ambition at a programme, which also served also the formal launch of the NEDF.

Addressing a press conference at Dimapur NEDF President Lima Longkumer informed that the party would only set up or back independent candidates. The party would be setting up candidates as independent candidates under the NEDF banner, he added. According to him, the party has no pre-poll arrangement with any other party, but would opt for post-poll alliance, if its candidates win. A former NPP worker, Lima said that the people have heard enough of false promises and it was time to gain the people’s trust by maintaining consistency in delivering principles.
